THOMAS SABO launches 2008 Spring / Summer Collection
and pledges Euro50,000 for the education of underprivileged Malaysian children
(Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — 17 January, 2008) Founder and jewellery designer of the globally renowned THOMAS SABO brand launched the 2008 Spring/Summer Sterling Silver Jewellery Collection themed ‘Take me Higher’ in Kuala Lumpur today.
Capturing impressions from the world’s fashion capitals, the new collection embodies a diverse range that is piquant with life for both women and men. The creative direction for 2008 draws on space adventure, Celtic influences, heraldry, Asian aesthetics, French elegance and much much more.
The Thomas Sabo launch party at a roof-top venue in Kuala Lumpur was attended by over 250 guests, which included Thomas Sabo himself, Thomas Sabo Malaysian representatives, customers and local celebrities like Harith Iskandar, Tony Eusoff, Jojo Struys, Ash Nair amongst others. Models strutted the catwalk to show how Thomas Sabo Sterling Silver jewellery suits diverse occasions, even outfits from festive clothing, business attire to leisure-look apparel.
One of the reasons why Thomas Sabo is so hugely successful in such a short span of time is because it never stops moving and constantly innovates. Providing fresh ideas twice a year; in parallel with the leading international fashion shows in London, Milan, New York and Paris – THOMAS SABO launches its new jewellery collections every Spring and Autumn. This is reflected in the seasonal change of Thomas Sabo shops as the décor evolves every quarter and exudes creative flair each time.
In conjunction with this launch, THOMAS SABO Foundation - which provides opportunities to young people around the world, pledged Euro10,000 per year for the next five consecutive years towards the education of underprivileged Malaysian children. Datin Nora Abu Hassan, Lt. Governor Kiwanis Div 5 received the cheque on behalf of Kiwanis Club of Damansara. The THOMAS SABO Foundation promise to offer ‘Perspectives instead of Hopelessness’ rings the same tune in the heart of Dr. Laurence Lim, the Chief Executive of NICEMATCH (M) Sdn Bhd - Malaysian representative for THOMAS SABO, who is also the current President of Kiwanis Club Damansara (KCD). KCD adopts the Kiwanis International credo of ‘Serving the children of the world’ and it will defintely be able to do that with funding provided by THOMAS SABO Foundation for the Kiwanis Education Fund which supports the education of underprivileged children from various shelter homes and orphanages including Tadika Fatimah in Batang Berjuntai, Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Tua Dan Kanak-kanak Wilayah Persekutuan in Kepong, Home for Little Angels in Cheras and many others.

Led by Chairman, Luz Enith Sabo, the THOMAS SABO Foundation supports charity projects with continuous monitoring of the development and effectiveness of their projects. The primary spotlight is on international charity projects for children and youngsters where the main objective is to help lower the impact of child poverty and to offer some perspective for the lives of affected children instead of hopelessness. About Kiwanis- Education Fund for less fortunate and underprivileged Children in Malaysia
Vision: To provide assistance to the poor, needy, underprivileged and orphans by giving them access to education so that they can create a future for themselves and in turn become role models for the next generation. Children from poor families with just two years of kindergarten preparatory training before formal schooling improve their chances of doing well when they start school.
Funding: All contributions from the public will be 100% utilised to provide education to those children who aspire to change their life through education. An estimated annual budget of RM50,000 will support tuition fees for about 50 children. In order to reduce start-up risk and accelerate implementation of this project, the plan includes collaboration with a number of existing charitable kindergarten organisations.
Utilisation of Fund: 100% of all funds donated by any company will be used for supporting education of targeted children groups.
Selection Criteria: Children from poor less educated parents/families earning income of less than RM1,500 per month.
All money received will fund 100% the kindergarden project will be audited to ensure transparency and accountability in disbursement of funds. Each year a progress report will also be issued to show the agents how their donations can make a difference to the needy kids.
In Malaysia, there are about 40 Kiwanis clubs and growing across the country, with more than 1,000 members. The first club, the Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur was chartered in 1976 by the then returning Ambassador to the US, "Bapa Kiwanis" Tan Sri Khir Johari.
KCD is a registered community service organisation under the flagship of Kiwanis International (US) and the Malaysian registrar of companies. KCD has a 17 years history in Malaysia with the objective to build a community of volunteers to serve the community aiming at improving children’s lives. The club has 20 dedicated members. Annually the club raises funds through projects such as the International Buskers’ Week, high tea and charity dinners and joint promotions. Its funds have benefited:
Under KCD’s wings, the club also sponsors youth programs called Circle K in Taylors Business School University and Metropolitan College since 2002. It is currently considering setting up Key Club for secondary school at Sri Petaling High School and Builders Club for a primary school institution.
About Kiwanis International
Since its founding in 1915, Kiwanis International has grown to about 9,000 clubs in 82 nations, with more than 500,000 members. The first Kiwanis club was organised in Detroit, Michigan, USA on January 21, 1915.
